• 10 Chin over Bar Pullups – move ahead to
• 10 Box Jumps (20") - run to
• 10 Thrusters (95#/65#) - run back to touch Box - run to
• 10 Barbell Burpees at Thruster Bar - run back to touch Box –run to
• 10 Plate Squats (35#/25#)- run back to touch Box - run to Plate
• 10m Plate Crawl – run back to touch Box - run to Plate
• 10m Overhead Walking Lunge with Plate
 ---- Run Property (400m +/-) ------
• 10 Deadlifts 275#/185#
• 10 Toes to Bar
• 1 “basket” from 12’
• At ANY time between start/finish you must do 1 tire flip 600/400

 • 10 Squat Cleans (50% BW) – 10 Box Jumps (20")
 • 20 Squat Cleans (50% BW)– 20 Box Jumps (20")

From the movement standards:

"Weight on the bar will be 50% of your bodyweight rounded down to the nearest 5# increment. For example, a 115# woman will pull 55# (115/2=57.5 rounded down to 55#)."

2010 Maine Fittest Games Workouts

Last year's top 3 men competing in the "chipper" event. Tyler Q. (1st-front), will not be competing this year due to injury, Chris P (2nd-back left) is making a run for the title and we haven't heard from "Beau Beaucage (3rd-back right)...yet!

My apologies for not getting this out this morning. No excuses. I just didnt' get it done in time.

I also realize some of you may be disappointed to not get the full workout specifics. It is standard fare to announce the workouts just before the event and fits in with the motto of "Be ready for the unknown and the unknowable ". If you've already signed up and not knowing the details is just too much for you,let me know and I'll be happy to work it out with you.

Broad descriptions are below. The specific details of load, reps, order, etc will be posted next Thursday night (really). These descriptions give you plenty of information to prepare yourself over the next few days. Remember we are looking for the most fit man and woman in Maine. Trust that our Fittest Games are designed to measure all 10 elements of fitness and will be fun and challenging for all of you. Train hard and stay loose.

Workout 1
A couplet with squat cleans and box jumps. Expect a 7-11 minute effort.

Workout #2
This is a chipper including (in alphabetical order, event order to be announced later) 

burpee
deadlift
overhead walking lunge
plate squat
pullup
running
thruster
toes to bar

plus 3 surprises

Expect a 10-16 minute effort.

Workout #3
Announced after the completion of events 1 and 2. Expect a 4-7 minute effort.

Effort times are guesstimates based on my personal run throughs with the workouts. They are given as a broad outline to the day. Your mileage will certainly vary.

2010 Maine Fittest Game Events

This year's events will be posted on Friday, July 23 at 8am. The events have been chosen and are in the final stages of testing and tweaking. You will be challenged across all elements of fitness. You will be challenged across multiple time domains. There will be some old standby movements and some unconventional ones as well. 

When we announce the events, we'll announce the movement standards as well.

A major change this year will be that we will allow athletes to scale weights/movements if they would like to get some experience competing. Scaling will remove the athlete from the running for Maine Fittest, but will hopefully encourage more people to participate and get a feel for the competition. If you have questions, please feel free to post them here for all to see the answers. An example of scaling would be to do jumping pullups rather than chin over the bar pullups. Another example of scaling would be to use a lighter weight on a barbell movement.

The site has been updated, all the forms are current and registration is open for all interested athletes. This event gives all you Maine athletes a chance to compete against each other and crown one champion. Who will it be this year? We wish you all the best as you get ready to compete. Littlefield's Gym announces the 2nd Annual Maine Fittest Games

The 2010 Maine Fittest Games will be held at Littlefield's Gym in Oakland on Saturday, July 31, 2010. The Games format will follow last years system:  there will be a Men's, Women's and Team Division (3 athletes) for Men and Women. There will be 3 events during the day. The events will be announced on Friday, July 23, 2010 at 8am. Full schedule details will be coming out within the week.

Contestants should expect to be tested across all 10 elements of fitness. We are looking to determine Maine's Fittest Man and Woman. Pure strength will not get you the title. Pure metablolic conditioning won't win it either. Fitness is about balance and that's what the events, when combined, will test. There will be a trophy for the winners and medals for 2nd and 3rd. There will be medals for the top mens and womens teams.

Cost for the event is $40 per athlete. Athletes who pre-register before July 15 will receive a $10 discount. All entries who pre-register will receive a Fittest Game t-shirt. Look for more details coming soon. Applications for the event will be available within the week. We will also post a set of "standards" that we would recommend you be able to accomplish if you want to compete. For example, even though we may not include pullups in one of the workouts, you should be able to complete 10 pullups within a minute to be able to complete the workouts.
